The Middle School at PCA emphasizes educational excellence and integrates a Christian world view of life into all course work. PCA provides opportunities for students in grades six through eight to grow into a personal relationship with Christ, to understand Christian principles, and to discover Biblical truths. With Jesus Christ as the cornerstone, PCA believes that there is a Biblical basis for morality, respect, discipline, responsibility, and accountability. Balanced with a Christian foundation, the Middle School promotes a cooperative and flexible learning environment. Off campus activities, including outdoor education, retreats and field trips stimulate students' interest and challenge them to think independently, creatively and critically. The student's education is enhanced by special areas of learning and extra curricular activities. CURRICULUM HIGHLIGHTSInternational Month - International Month is a multi-cultural, interdisciplinary unit of study that allows students to experience the customs, politics, economics, religions, languages and history of countries far from the PCA campus. Understanding other cultures provides PCA students with a broad world view. Guidance Program - Lifestyles of the Christian Adolescent increases appreciation for the uniqueness and value of each individual. Students are taught and encouraged to maintain a lifestyle free of sexual activity outside of marriage. In addition, the program instills a desire for health, wholeness, and a positive Christ-like attitude. Students also participate in the Young Peacemakers Program. They are taught the biblical view of conflict resolution. Science Fair - The Middle School Science Department requires all students to participate in actual independent research. In this program, students learn to use the scientific method. They come to understand how to conduct research and how it relates to life. Opportunities to Serve Others - The Middle School connects the program with the community by identifying service opportunities for students and using community resources to enrich instruction. Students are encouraged to take advantage of a variety of after school programs to enhance learning. Missions Outreach - Presently, PCA students are sending children to school in Zambia by donating the cost of a snack or drink. It only cost $25.00 a month for a child to attend school, get books, and a uniform. To date, over $300.00 has been collected on "Sacrifice Wednesday." Retreats - Middle School students participate in a three day retreat at the beginning of the school year. This retreat is designed to give the students the opportunity to meet the teachers, renew friendships, and alleviate any concerns as they make the transition into Middle School. It's full of fun, friendships, and new experiences. A spiritual time around the camp fire or in the bunk devotions encourages new or renewed commitments to Jesus Christ. Parent Involvement - The Middle School parents are encouraged to participate in the education of their adolescents by having meaningful roles in governing the school, communicating with teachers about their child's progress. Parents are included in planning school programs and invited to participate in class field trips.
